How do you recognize the signs of a scam?
Overwhelming attention in the first days, promises of marriage that arrive far too fast, and the urge to pull you off the platform into WhatsApp or Telegram right away are the most common warning signs. Someone in a hurry usually wants the conversation somewhere nobody checks profiles.
Be careful with accounts that keep avoiding a video call, whose camera is broken every single time, or that share only a handful of flawless photos. Running the photo through an image search often reveals straight away that it belongs to someone else.
Cut contact immediately with anyone who asks for money with a story about a plane ticket, customs fee, hospital bill, phone bill or visa payment, and with anyone steering you toward crypto, trading or an unmissable investment. Card details, banking passwords and SMS verification codes are never shared with anyone, under any circumstances.
Someone who asks you for intimate photos or video may later use them for blackmail. If such a request arrives, end the conversation, keep screenshots of the chat without deleting it, and report the profile.
